Barr Construction have recently started on site at the prestigious Kelvin Hall Phase 1 Re-development project in Glasgow. The new facility will house community and cultural services from Glasgow Museums, the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow Sport, the National Library of Scotland and Glasgow University.
When complete, the project will include large, environmentally controlled rooms that will showcase the Hunterian collections. Conference facilities, a conservation centre and teaching labs will also be included. The re-development will also create a number of sports halls, dance studios and a state of the art gym. Gym users will be able to enjoy views of the river Kelvin after the installation of a large picture window which replaces the old west entrance, which formerly led to the Transport Museum.
A new glass entrance structure will also house a foyer, reception and cafe. Extensive works to the roof and external facade are also included as part of the contract as well as internal fit out and finishing works. The M&E services will also be overhauled to accommodate the buildings change of use.
