Amey is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced sub-contractor to undertake repair work on the Forth Road Bridge. The works will comprise the repair of the central reservation grillage at the North Side Span of the Forth Road Bridge. In January 2017, a heavy goods vehicle collided with central reservation during high winds causing damage to the grillage infill, steel supporting structure and adjacent concrete deck. It is proposed to appoint a contractor who will undertake the necessary work to repair the grillage and associated structural components and maintain its structural performance.
These works will require the following principal elements;
- Installation and maintenance of a suitable site perimeter on the footpath of the Forth Road Bridge
- Installation and maintenance of a suitable under site debris netting
- Phased removal of damaged structural components
- Fabrication and installation of structural steel components (to execution class 3) as per drawings provided by the employer
- The removal and repair of loose/damaged concrete as per drawings provided by the employer
- Recasting of localised sections of the bridge deck
- The removal and reinstatement of mastic asphalt surfacing and waterproofing above localised deck repairs on the main carriageway
- The provision, maintenance and removal of traffic management on the Forth Road Bridge to facilitate access to repair areas
- The provision, maintenance and removal of suitable encapsulation for painting of new steel elements
- Painting of new structural elements as per specification provided by employer
- The provision of all necessary plant and materials outlined within the specification.
All works will be in accordance with the specification as provided by the Employer.
The successful tenderer should have experience procuring/delivering in the following fields:
- Works contracts on long span bridges
- Structural steel fabrication to Execution Class 3
Structural steel fabrication in accordance with the Specification for Highway Works (SHW)
- Working at height and above water.
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
- Work at Height Regulations 2005
- Structural concrete repairs in accordance with the Specification for Highway Works
- Removal and application of bridge deck waterproofing in accordance with the Specification for Highway Works
- The supply and installation of Mastic Asphalt surfacing
- The provision, maintenance and installation of traffic management to undertake the works in accordance with the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8
- Painting works in accordance with the Specification for Highway Works
